Something is not working and nobody can tell you why. A room went dead. Half the outlets in the kitchen quit. The lights dim every time the AC starts. A breaker trips at the same time every evening and nobody can find the cause. At The Wire Guy Electric, troubleshooting is the work we are best at, because it is the work that rewards actually knowing what you are looking at.
Most electrical faults are not where the symptom is. A dead bedroom outlet is often caused by a failed connection in a completely different room, because outlets are wired in runs and the break is upstream of what you noticed.
So we map the circuit rather than guess at it. We identify what is actually on the affected circuit, test where power stops, and work back to the fault. That usually lands on one of a short list: a backstabbed device that has loosened over decades, a junction connection cooked by heat, a failing breaker, a damaged conductor, or a shared neutral doing something it should not.
The reason this matters: replacing the outlet you can see does nothing if the problem is a connection two rooms away. That fix appears to work and fails again a month later.
Arizona heat is hard on connections. Attic temperatures cycle brutally every day for months, conductors expand and contract, and connections that were merely adequate at install work themselves loose. Loose connections generate heat, and heat accelerates the process. That is why so many of our summer calls are intermittent problems that get worse in the afternoon.
Dust and monsoon moisture take care of the exterior side, and homes wired in the 1960s and 1970s can carry single strand aluminum branch wiring, which needs proper treatment at every connection. We cover that in our post on aluminum wiring in older Phoenix homes.
Those are not wait-and-see items. Our post on panels that are hot to the touch explains why.
