Questions
Tempe electrical questions
Utility, permits, estimates and pricing: straight answers before you call.
Who provides electric service in Tempe?
Most of Tempe is in SRP’s electric service area; APS serves an area around downtown Tempe, roughly Broadway Road north to Weber Drive, between Beck Avenue and Dorsey Lane. For a panel upgrade, SRP’s service specifications say to contact both SRP and the permitting authority first, and SRP reconnects power once both approve the work; APS energizes a new, relocated or replaced meter only after the inspection authority approves the wiring. An EV charger that needs a larger service or a new panel follows the same steps.
Who issues electrical permits in Tempe?
Residential electrical permits in Tempe are issued by the City of Tempe Community Development Department’s Building Safety Division (Permit Center). Applications are submitted, and inspections requested, through the Tempe Citizen Access Portal.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Arizona?
Permits are required for all major electrical work. At The Wire Guy Electric, we can handle the entire permitting process for you. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and make sure everything passes.
